In Their Own Words by Seconds To Spare . . . . .

Imagine this…a hardcore band, who laughs at hardcore ethos, and dress code, blatantly scoffing at the faded blue diesel pants, and favorite band of the week/has-been, hair-metal band black t-shirt fashion sense of every kid who either is straight-edge, because they A. they’re not old enough to buy their own alcohol or cigarettes, or B. because it’s the cool thing to do these days.
We mean no harm, or offense, but the kids these days are so easily switching from one fad to the next, that it’s hard for any band to establish themselves, and still remain true to what they love. That’s what the song “Blackshirts and Bluejeans” is all about.

Determined to break all of the stereotypes surrounding hardcore, Seconds to Spare blend elements of metal, hardcore, and even a little taste of jazz, to form what they like to call remorseful brutality. With deadly rhythms created by Mike (Blue) Fish, and added tone, and complexity from bassist Chuck Bailey, the back bone of Seconds to Spare, is laid down. Topped off with vicious guitars delivered by Sergio Sanabia and Steve (Red) Fish, piercing screams, and tormented melodies from vocalist Schwab, the new sound of hardcore is complete. Beware.
That aside, we enjoy what we do, and put all of our emotions into this great thing, and just come out fighting. We formed in the spring of 2004, fusing more melodic influences with a nice dose of heaviness, and hardcore. When we finally achieved the correct balance that we wanted, we started gigging, and everything fell into place from there.

The Brothers Fish, Steve and Mike have been playing together for a few years now, and had a group prior to Seconds to Spare, with Chuck Bailey. They had played a few gigs here and there, and had acquired Sergio somewhere along the line. After my band had disbanded due to friendly fire (just kidding, I love you KDT), I took some time off, and got my head straight, I ran into the guys, and that’s how it all began.

So far, we’ve been blessed enough to play twice at the House of Blues, first with Nonpoint and Skindred, and the second time with Soulfly and Morbid Angel, headlined a show with the Fight, and participated in two battle of the bands, taking second at the Budweiser True Music battle, and fourth in the Showdown at the Cheyenne. We’ve just signed up for the next go round of the Showdown, and this time, we’re not gonna hold back! We are taking the month of May off (hopefully) to write new material, and maybe even begin recording our official demo or EP. We’ve been kind of slacking on getting that done so far, but if you want to hear what we sound like, you can check out our live demo at www.myspace.com/secondstospare Also on our page is a live video of our track “Blackshirts and Bluejeans” shot at the Roadhouse by our friend Mike B. from www.dasmusik.com

I remember we played this show one night at the Cheyenne Saloon. It was one of our first shows, if not the first show. We all went out to a little casino down the road and had some cheap breakfast. I had arrived a little later than everyone else, but they made room for me. The band was there with a few friends, one of which was completely sauced. I guess before I got there she had been nicknaming everyone different citrus fruits. Why you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. During this whole fiasco, said friend, had also been drunk enough to eat some napkins with her pancakes. Sounds a bit odd, I know, but I guess she knew that she was eating them. She just kept shoveling them in, and swallowing them down. I don’t even know if she put butter and syrup on them. So I show up, and I get the only empty spot left at the table…right next to her. There was pancake particles spread out all around her plate setting, and syrup droplets everywhere. I felt so honored. Lucky me. Lesson 1, if you’re trying to impress us, you’ll have to top that. Lesson 2, don’t eat napkins. That’s just silly.
